Sorry. I hate it! It sounds old and cranky. As the people from your other question said, it sounds like an old witch.

I think in other places in the world it would not fall the same way as it does on American ears. I myself love the name Hazel (Pre Julia roberts naming her daughter) By no one else did. If it bothers you what others think maybe Ester is softer. Their are other names that also mean star.Estrella, Estella or Citlali. You can do a search online by meaning. Otherwise if you love the name go for it. The child will be so beautiful she will make the name something special and unique and cool!
I really believe that!

1. The only well-known Hester was the adulteress from "The Scarlett Letter"

I love the sound of this name, and the early American feel, too.

And Hester Prynne, for all that she wore the Scarlet Letter, was actually a pretty interesting character.

I'd use it.

Hester is the ugliest name I have ever heard. It sounds like.. blister. Bad comparison.

I think perhaps there is a bit of logic behind why some people hate the name. It invokes the name Hitler whom we all know from history was a notorious tyrant.

I don't love it, but I don't hate it either. Mostly it just makes me think of Hester Prynne.

I personally don't care for it...maybe Esther? That also means star. Remember that this child is going to have grow up with the name.

Personally, I don't like it. But a similar name for a prettier alternative might be Esther. :-)
