I've come to the conclusion that with the advent of text and Americanisms, 90% of us in UK can't spell. Luckily, I am very observant and know how to spell and in which context to use words.

Most people can't spell correcly Pharaoh, Diarrhoea or even spell, never mind pronounce, Onomatopoeia - decribes words that sound exacly or similar to they way they are written i.e. Hiss, Buzz, Swish, Swoosh etc.

EDIT: my real pet peeve is this inappropriate use of the Apostrophe ('). When people are saying something as a plural they say Camera's, Bus's, 100's, 70's, IFA's. The apostrophe before the S is singular and not plural. It's like saying Mystic's post i.e. my post - one person. Sometimes you can put the apostrophe on the outside when the word has an S at the end already, or word already indicates a plural, where a 2nd S would be inappropriate e.g. Chris' cake was inedible or my sisters' husbands are inept.

I also went to a public school!

You people who have a problem should also remember, that there are many individuals here who are learning English. Some use the Internet to learn to spell and read as they never learnt in school. You are not helping their process by being ignorant. You are also a representative of your country! If you don't care how your attitude affects others then it is YOU'RE DEAL!! not the people who are on the site

I think nothing of it. We are not teachers correcting homework for Gods sake. So people make mistakes , so what. People in glass houses shouldn`t throw stones. It is not silly foolish ignorant lazy or whatever else bossy boots folk say . leave them alone and mind your own faults. This is not directed at the asker as i think it was lighthearted. I may be unpopular for saying this but frankly my dears i don`t give a dam! or is it damn?

Er no, that's just being smug. Don't knock it 'cos one day you'll misspell sumting on hier yurself.

Oh crikey you lot, give people a break: there's a quote, 'mindless pedantism is the hobgoblin of small minds' - that's not quite it but it's the general flavour and 10 points to any of you that can tell me who said it. Clue: he was American.....

I see "your" instead of "you're", at least twenty times a day. I also see a lot of people use the wrong form of "there, their, or they're".

I don't think it's funny. I think it's so sad when some people cannot even speak or type their first language without grammar mistakes, typos or misspellings. I feel so sad for those who do not value or respect what comes out of their mouths.
