What about something like a human, but with 10 brains? The brains would all share the same nervous system, so wouldn't it be smarter than a one brained human? Or just have more than one frontal lobe?

I've been thinking about it since I read an article about how science has created a new bacteria.

Yes -- It will be software-based, not biological.
I expect human simulation software in about 20 years, and human emulation software in about 50 years.
What a weird world you'll be living in.

I think it may be possible using the concept that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. By collaborating and each contributing what is uniquely theirs the entity might draw the best from all, thus eclipsing any individual. As to brain size- it doesn't really matter in humans as we use so little of out brain capacity. No matter how many frontal lobes or brains the new entity had, if it could not access all the additional abilities, the experiment would fail.
