Someone could be Margaret Joan and go by their middle name. That's the only way I can think of to get Joan from Margaret.

You can't really get Joan from Margaret unless its a nickname or maybe a middle name

Jo for short, birth names could be Joanna, Joanah, Giovannina, Georgia, Georgina, Jolanda, Josalyn, Jorjanna, or Jonell, Johnna, Johanna. That's all I can come up with. The answer is yes to your question...her name could be Margaret Joan.

I knew a woman who went by Trudi, even though her given name was Margaret. Anything is possible.
That said, Joan is not really a nickname for Margaret. I'd say that it could be short for Johanna or Josephine Anne; or maybe a nickname for a fussier Jo-name - Josette, Joella.

I know someone named John Teitel that goes by Zack. he was named after someone speciall for his middle name 9that I don't know of), and his first name was tradition. but his parents wanted zack. Joan could be her middle name. Margaret Joan.

I don't think that Joan is really short for another name. It is a name all on it's own, although it's possibly short for Joanne?

I knew a girl in high school whose name was Margaret.
We called her Margie, with the hard "g" like in Green or anGry. I think it is a cute alternative!
