I know it's common for women, especially teens, to have irregular periods. I'm 18 and I've always had a regular period. It's always been pretty light and painless.

About 5 months ago, my period started getting later and later, but it kept coming and stayed pretty much the same.

Now, for the past two months, I've had 2 periods a month! They last about 3 days, and are light. One comes around the 13th of the month, and the other comes around the 28th. Everything else seems to be pretty normal.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I am sexually active.

Can anyone tell me what's going on?

The fact that you are sexually active doesn't affect when you have your period. If you are on BC pills, they should make your periods more regular not less so. It is not uncommon for girls periods to be irregular the first few years they have them. But yours used to be regular so that doesn't apply to you.

Your menstrual periods are dependent upon your female hormone levels so that is the biggest concern. If your hormones used to be normal and they are not now, what caused the change?

You need to see a doctor to find out what the problem is. Only your doctor can find out what the problem is and fix the problem.

Stress can also cause irregular periods. My x-wife and I used to fly to Phoenix every year for a mid winter week of vacation. We would time the vacation so that it wouldn't be when she wasn't having her period.

Despite this, she would start her period the day we left for Phoenix. In any case, you need to see your doctor to find out what is causing the problem. For you, having irregular periods is not normal.

That sounds pretty normal. If you are taking the birth control pill, then it is very normal. Being sexually active might have something to do with it too. Unless you start bleeding heavily for more than 5 days a month, or you get a lot of weird pains, then you shouldn't worry about it.

You do need a checkup w/ your gyn. He/she will probably do a pelvic check and blood work to test your hormone levels and to feel if you have any ovarian cysts that might be causing your hormones/cycles to go wack.

do you know that your body changes every 7 years, you are still young, your body is probably just changing, the only thing that concerns me is you getting your period so frequently , i would set up an appointment with your doctor just to be on the safe side
