My friend suggested 'Laylah Chase' for a baby girl to me. I think it's very cute, but I don't know just how common it is and I don't like really common names (my name is Alexis which is now extremely popular). I need to know if it is common, if you would spell it differently how would you do it, and if you don't like the name what would be another cute girls name?

We have a little girl who comes to our coffee shop all the time, in fact, they were in earlier today getting snow cones. Her name is Layla, she's an adorable red head. I love her name, but I prefer it without the "h". I don't think it's very popular. It may be in a few years, but right now, no, it's a pretty unique.

Chase is really cute, as a girl's name, or as a boy's nane. That too is unique. Layla Chase is beautiful.

It has some appeal. However, I think this is one of those names that is climbing the popularity charts.

In 2006, Layla was the 100th most popular name given to baby girls, up from 195 in 2003 and 860 in 1998.

But there are lots of spellings that lead to Layla. Leila was 284 last year. Leyla was 986.

Plus, the similar Leah was 69 and Kayla was 26.

So even if she's the only "Laylah" in her class, her name won't stand out.

A few that *might* be a little more singular, if not unique:

Gelsey
Larisa
Saskia
Georgia
Cicely
Avalon
Romy (short for Rosemary, originally)
Eliza
Piper
Embry
Ellery

My suggestion would be Piper - though not Piper Chase. Maybe Piper Elisabeth or Piper Cecily, Piper Grace or Piper Jane. It has that fresh feel of Laylah, but she won't be one of a bajillion. (It was #246 last year, and there are - to the best of my knowledge - no other spellings.)

Laylah could be spelled many ways. This way is very unique and I like it. If I had a scale 1 to 5. LAyla would pobably be a 4.

Chase on the other hand is unacceptable. Chase is a credit card!? Why would you name your child a credit card? With a scale 1 to 5 Chase would probably be a 1 and a half. I don't know about you but I don't like the name Chase. How about Veronica or Lailianne?

You know, I have an odd feeling kids are going to make fun of that middle name. I mean Chase? Chase what? As for Laylah, it's a pretty name, I don't think it's all that common. I only know of two people with that name.

I've never heard of the spelling Laylah. I have heard of it being spelled Lela.

Chase is a boys name and the name of a well known bank. It makes her sound either rich or boyish, or both.

What's wrong with common names? Isn't that why we have middle and last names, to tell us apart? I'd sure rather see a duplicate name than some of the dumb names and spellings some people come up with.

I always favored Sarah, Rebecca (or Becky), Rachel, Marie, and Virginia (or Ginny for short).

I really like Laylah, and I don't think it is ever going to be a common name. If it wasn't common after Eric Clapton's song, it's not going to be, I suppose. And that's a good thing, in my opinion.
As for variations:
Layla
Lailah
Laila
Leilah - my favorite
Leila
