If you are looking for California type waves forget it.
On the other hand once in a while the waves might almost be big enough 1 1/2 feet sometimes for skimboarding. I live in LA but once in a while, when I visit the Greek Isles there are some small waves that are actually enough to body surf for a few short feet, but that's rare.
Many of the beaches have grey, not white sand, and most of them have a lot of rocks. So even if there were some big waves(which there are not) you would have huge scratch marks in your board in no time.
But there are some very nice things about Greek beaches.
You see lots of people from various countries. The water at most beaches is very very clear. Most beaches have tiny mini
marts and taverns close the the shore.
Greek beaches are one of the nicest places in Europe to visit and spend your time. And at night the night life is usually great. Especially on the islands from May to Sept. Food is inexpensive compared to Western Europe. Most Greeks are friendly to tourists. They recognize that tourists bring money to Greece.

I have been surfing for about 15 years now. It is very seldom that you can surf in the Mediterranean. The only time I saw somewhat surfable waves in Greece was in winter. Waves are formed when a depression (rain) is coming. It hardly ever rains in Greece in summer. Plus you get the Meltemi which is a northerly, very strong wind. That is why Greece is very famous for windsurfing but not surfing. If you want good waves, try the Atlantic especially Hossegor in France, Mundaca in Spain and Portugal!
