Many philosophies attempt to answer the question "why?" Why are we here? Is beyond us to exist without knowing why? Is it not acceptable to state, "I don't know why the universe exists and I wasn't there to witness what happened."

Most we always have a "why" even if that why is inaccurate?

If you propose that theory A is why the universe exists and I propose theory B as to why the universe exists, and it turns out that both theories are wrong, it doesn't change that the universe exists.

I think so many ask "why" because we all want to know the reasons or the factors that played into the beginning of time and life. Many people can ponder it a few times, and be okay, but many people just want so badly to know everything they can before they die...I mean, if you only live once, it's perfectly normal for people to seek the real reasons for things before they're gone...

exactly. it doesn't change a thing at all. but why is there a "why" in this world? if the nature of "why" is to know the "why" and yet it doesn't change a thing when we know the "why", then why is "why" existing in this world?
well, as i can see, people have the universal tendency to know the ultimate cause of things. that's "why" we have philosophy. and philosophy is the mother of all sciences. because of the quest for the ultimate cause we are now living differently from those people who lived 500 years ago. so let us not confine the "why" into the walls of only knowing the "why".

but then, like faith, we must understand that the question of faith is far from being reasoned. questioning faith would just lead to a series of contradicting reasons that will just consume infinite time. let's leave it like that. like how the universe was formed. let's leave it like that. ^_^

Dreamer 77 got it. Some really do want to know the true answer of "why" before we die. Alas we are never given that ultimate answer. Instead we answer the why question at a normal level of everyday experience with the needs that demand immediate answers now.

The overall answer to "why" remains a great mystery in the same way that the universe itself outside the planet earth appears to be endless with no reasonable explanation of ever us understanding "why".
