They have a 14 day return policy (for freshwater fish, like an Oscar). They say that you need to bring in a water sample, but they never actually ask for it. Just bring in the dead fish in a bag and your receipt. They will give you store credit.

Petsmart Return Policy

If it's past the 14 day guarantee, you're out of luck, unless you can somehow talk the manager into doing the return. If he does the return, you'll get a refund or exchange, but chances are they won't anyway. Try a local fish store--as long as the fish are heathy, many will take them off your hands in exchange for store credit, usually half of what the fish is selling for. Better late than never to fix a stocking mistake though.

Petsmart's return policy for fish is 14 days with the receipt, the fish and a water sample. They will give you another fish or your money back.

Also the small oscar will be fine with the cories for now but as he gets bigger they will become lunch. Also be prepared to upgrade to a larger tank if you plan to get another oscar. They get quite large and may outgrow a 30 gal.

My advice would be if you do buy more fish from Petsmart that you take time to examine the fish closely prior to taking it home. After you get it home, I would STRONGLY suggest putting it in quarantine for at least 2 weeks. Reason being, all their water runs through each tank and back through a central filter thing. This means if one tank in the beginning of the line has a sick fish, it goes through ALL the other tanks. I would be sure to keep a close eye on your other fish for signs of disease, just in case. It's an important lesson in the reasons for quarantining new fish. Unfortunately sometimes we are reminded of this the hard way.

Petsmart is usually really good about standing by their policies with their livestock.

Good luck!!! ;o)
