Luca is the traditional (masculine) Italian form of Luke, and I've always quite liked it ... especially if the baby happens to have some Italian heritage. ;)
Not feminine in the least, unless one finds all -a ending names inherently feminine (Noah, Joshua, Isaiah, Ezra, Jonah, Micah, etc.). Lucia -- said loo-CHEE-a or LOO-sha -- is the feminine form, by the way.
Ps. What's with all the misspelled "Lucus" suggestions? LOL Lucas is nice, but can't say I've ever seen that one. ;)

I love the name Luca. It is a very popular Italian name for males. But I've also heard it used in North America for girls. Jennie Garth's oldest daughters name is Luca Bella, which I think is lovely. But Luca is an entirely appropriate boys name.

Maybe if she names the child Luke then that sounds more of a males name. Luca sounds like it has a hint of feminism to it. But there are also names for girls that are for guys as well.

Luca is definitely a girl's name. It is an Italian name for a girl. Luke is more appropriate.
Mr. M on "name."

I love it! Someone had a song in the charts called Luca - I think it was the late 80's or early 90's and I've always thought it was a really great name for a boy!

I like it, but a lot of people will think it sounds very feminine because in English, most names ending in A are for girls, just like in French, most names ending in E are for girls.

You would be shocked at the gender of names. I know so many older people called by names that I thought belonged to the opposite sex! Time changes names....

I would'nt be my choice to name MY son, I would name him something with power, strength, and honor. Naming can be a serious thing in some cultures. Many sons take the name of their fathers. William III, Henry IIX, Stanley Yelnats IV. I would name my son Orion, or Agamemnon, or Achiles. Whatever floats your boat.
