I just bought the minibow 2.5 gallon aquarium. And yes I got a heater and airator and a filter for it. Its all set up for a while now but I want some fish in it. Any ideas for a 2 1/2 gallon tank?. If so what kind and how many?

I am probably going with guppies. but at the pet store yesterday I saw these tiny gold gouramis about an inch long. are these ok to put in? Keep in mind I have a bigger 12 Gallon tank I could move it to if it grows too much.

Last time a a couple weeks ago i asked if I could put fish in my 1 gallon tank and a lot of people said that if i upgraded to a 2 gallon I could get guppies so then I did upgrade to a Two and 1 half gallon! But now PEOPLE TELL ME THAT I Should UPGRADE AGAIN!!!??? WHAT NEXT? Next they are probably gonna ask me to get a 3,500 gallon tank and that that is Still pretty small for a guppy.!!!??? Now days people are like babying their fish!!! What happened to the goldfish in a bowl?!!!! Please just tell me how many guppies and which sex of how many can LIVE in a two and a half gallon! personnaly I dont think its torture to bring home a fish from a crowded tank where like Half of them die from getting sucked through the filter and put them in a safe place where they can live there life in peace

You could have aproximately 25 Guppies living in a 2.5 gallon tank, that doesn't mean anything though. Do you know anything about fish? Goldfish are 1.5 foot pond fish, so that would be where the Goldfish bowl went. If you don't care about your fish, why even bother getting them? If you don't give a **** about your fish, go get as many Guppies as you want.

12 Guppies in a 2.5 gallon tank is absolutely disgusting. They should live for a few years, but in such a small tank, they certainly won't. Those fish are miserable and will certainly not live a full lifespan. As I have already said, GUPPIES ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR YOUR TANK, THEY WILL NOT BE HEALTHY. If you are gonna just ask a question so you can hear the answer you want to hear, why bother asking?

One of the few fish that would even be moderately acceptable for a tank that small would be a Betta. Most other small fish are either very active, or schooling oriented; neither of which are conducive to a 2.5 gallon tank. You could get a Betta and a few Ghost Shrimp, Red Cherry Shrimp, or Singapore Shrimp. Shrimp are very interesting to watch, and some bright Red Cherry Shrimp would be a lovely contrast to a blue, purple, black, or green Betta. Email me if you have any questions.

EDIT: Glofish are completely inappropriate for such a small tank. They are genetically altered Danios, some of the most hyperactive fish in the hobby. They would be miserable as they constantly dart into the walls, leading to confused, injured fish. Dwarf Gouramis would also be fairly miserable in a 2.5 gallon tank as they enjoy swimming space, and produce a fair amount of waste.

EDIT 2: The Gold Gouramis will grow way too large for a 2.5 gallon tank. They will reach 4 inches, so a 12 gallon tank will have to be their eventual home. Keep in mind that Guppies breed like rats and will soon overpopulate a 2.5 gallon tank if there are any females at all. IF YOU DON'T WANT A BETTA, GET A BIGGER TANK! By the way, Guppies will be pretty miserable in such a small tank. They love open swimming space, which a 2.5 gallon tank just doesn't provide (as well as grow out room for fry).

EDIT 3: Cories are shoaling fish that do NOT do well alone. Keeping a single Cory will lead to constant stress (in addition to the stress from such a small tank).

I would recommend maybe a betta and a cory catfish. (yes you can keep bettas with other fish just not with each other) or maybe a single dwarf gourami (the can get oxygen by gulping air from the surface like a betta) or a couple of guppies. 2 small fish is about it for a tank that size.

I'm not sure how big the golden gourami get if it is a dwarf variaty you should be fine as long at that's all you keep in the tank but if its not a dwarf it will get way to large for a 2.5.

Like I said earlier a couple of guppies will be ok but if they start breeding they will quickly over crowd the tank, but you did say you had a 12gal you could move some fish to so it may be ok. (12 guppies is way to many for a 2.5 tank unless is 12 fry being in there to be grown out to move to a bigger tank.

As far as bettas by there self they can be boring but mine is with a cory and they interact quite a bit which is very interesting, also keeps the cory from getting lonely as they gernally do better in schools.

Get a betta! With a heater airator and a filter in a minibow that is BETTA HEAVEN! A 2.5 is could hold a betta and maybe an apple snail, if you heavily plant it with real and silk plants you have a beautiful set up that your fish can thrive in not just live out it's days sadly. Plus the design of the tank is very betta friendly.

They say an inch of fish per gallon, but that is too small for a 5 inch gourami, it may live for a while if you have good airation and filtration, but it most likely wont be happy. And it is not good to downgrade a fish you have had for a long time because you got 2 new fish. The gourami is letting the rams know where ther place is in the aquarium, the aggression may pass, the gourami is probably not comfortable in a 20 gallon tank and is letting you know its too crowded as it is.

No. Gouramis grow, and they need a MUCH larger tank than a little 2.5 gallon. Guppies or tetras would be a better choice. Also, you might want to get an algae eater, too. Guppies eat algae, but a catfish or plecostimosus would be a good way to go. Mollies eat algae, too. Another way to go would be to get a few books on fish, which can be found at any kind of pet store. Good luck! :)

I would skip the gouramis in such a small tank and go with a group of 3 male guppies if you don't want a betta.Don't get any female guppies or your tank will soon be over populated due to breeding.

you could get away with 3 male guppy's and a couple of apple snails or 2-4 ghostshrimps
I wouldn't put any females in there, unless you have a plan for the fry you would be getting

As for the goldfish in a bowl, that is a myth which is long since outdated

Hope that helps
Good luck

Try a betta and a cory. Or if you perfer, Try 1 male/female guppy with a cory. A male/Female platy or swordtail. Isnt much room so its kinda hard. If you ask me, Id go for the betta and the cory. bettas can be very beautiful and a cory as a bottem feeder will help alot.
