No. It's simply the reaction of a small town mayor who has watched his town's name being dragged through the mud for most of a year now in media across the nation. Having lived in a small town for several years, I can understand how he & his people feel. On any given day you might walk out your front door & within minutes find a camera in your face or a mike at your mouth being asked leading questions about how bad your town is. They just want all this attention to go away. Nothing will ever be the same as it was.

John Mellenkamp wrote a protest song. The mayor reacted. And this kind of thing will go on for who knows how long still. And Jena has joined the ranks, rightly or wrongly, of other towns in the south which are remembered for the civil rights movement - like Selma, Alabama.

Going back to your question, I think almost everyone has gone too far in the interests of Political Correctness. Not just the right or the left.

Right wing political correctness is more pervasive than many people think.

Banning books.
Going off the deep end when a couple of Conservative Christian leaders get offended
Trying to pretend that social problems, such as racism, don't exist
Usage of certain terms, such as "freedom fries" and "collateral damage"
And other things too

At least liberal PC thinks of the little guy, right wing PC is only there to prop up the worst parts of the status quo.
