In the NHL you're constantly hearing about teams moving or wanting to move, yet in other leagues such as MLB, NBA, or NFL, it is a rare occurrence.. It baffles me why the NHL moved out of cities such as Hartford, WInnipeg, or Quebec, when those 3 cities probably had the most loyal fans, compared to teams like Phoenix or Atlanta? I mean, 10 years after they move, both Hartford and Winnipeg still have booster clubs, fan sites, organizations trying to get the NHL back.. Im sure if the NHL were to leave Phoenix it would not happen.. Why has the NHL abandoned these cities whose fans, even when the teams were not doing so great, still supported them and cherished them.. it makes no sense to me, and since the whalers, jets, and nordiques have left, the league has not been the same....

Buffalo still has a booster group that wants the Buffalo Braves back and I know there are city councillors in Vancouver who want the Grizzlies back.

The reason teams don't move in the NFL is that the NFL TV deal covers their expenses and anything on top of that is pure profit.

MLB had the Montreal Expos move in 2004.............although I'm not sure anybody noticed.

As has been mentioned before, filling an arena doesn't mean profitability. Both the Nordiques and Jets filled their arenas, but due to other things were not able to turn a profit and were sold to people who needed to try and make it work elsewhere. While Phoenix has been no better than Winnipeg in terms of profitability, the Hurricanes and Avalanche have been far more successful in their new homes.

It's because Gary Bettman has this "American" dream. He wants the NHL to be all American. He's gotten rid of teams from Winnipeg and Quebec and moved them south of the border. He gave teams to Atlanta, Nashville, Carolina and heck he's thinking of a team in Las Vegas. Wonder how many scandals we'll have on gambling.
The solution to this is simple: GET RID OF GARY BETTMAN!!!!!!!

Because the NHL is a business. No matter how loyal the fans in a city are, if they can't buy enough tickets, they are trashed. NHL doesn't measure loyalty counting fan sites, booster clubs etc. They measure it by counting money.

Atlanta does have a lot of fans. many people i know have had to move down to atlanta for jobs and love hockey. also the same goes for phoenix. also those areas are more populated which means a higher chance for new fans.

its all about money in all sports and why you here allot of moving in the NHL is because of the US market. nobody in the us watches hockey that much in places like Phoenix but people have money and want a team they will buy one and they can do with it as they want right move it sell in etc.
