Right now there is a problem with these high-end video cards requiring more than 500 Watts of power minimum, and if things keep going this way they'll require 1000 watts soon..

when will that change?

When they run so stupidly hot that they require about 4 spare card slots.

But even then they won't stop. It's always about The Next Big Thing. As long as nVidia, ATI and the gaming companies can squeeze more money out of you, they will.

probably more than 20 years, thats about how far the latest japanese teck is ahead of ours and their video card take about 900 watts to run

probably when technology finnaly advances enough that they dont need as much power to run.

But im afraid my psychic powers are on the blink today so i cant actually answer for certain :P
