I have a new 07 Toyota, and i have to sit and wait for the "cold engine" light to go out before i drive or else it hesitates to shift into second. Of course it will do it, but only if i gas the engine more than you normally would. What could be the problem? Thanks!

Your car has a feature built into the on board computer which keeps the transmission from shifting before it reaches operating temperature. It is all covered in the owners manual.

I've got an 2001 Chevy Prizm, (Toyota Corolla), which seems to do the same thing. I think the idea is that if the rpms are higher, the engine will warm up faster, thus use less fuel.
I don't think it is a problem, I've never really noticed it.

Wait till the "cold engine" light goes out........

ADDED:
That seems silly for a car manufacurer to make a car you can't drive until it warms up....I'll stick with Chevys....
