The Chickasaw mostly paid their way, being one of the more successful tribes in the assimilation, but they were often cheated. Once, a steamship ferrying a band of Chickasaw over the Mississippi either sank or exploded from engine trouble. The Cherokee had a hard time -- they were the ones who dubbed the move 'The Trail of Tears.' The Seminole fought wars in Florida against the US before they were beaten and moved to Oklahoma.
