How about a pair of Bettas or a pair of Dwarf Gouramis? They display very interesting mating behavior and it will be very rewarding to rear the fry. If you are breeding Bettas, be sure you understand how to condition them, or you will end up with dead fish. Check out this site for more on breeding Bettas: http://www.fishlesscycling.com/articles/breeding_bettas.html (you could get away with a 2.5 gallon tank instead of 10 gallons...). Breeding Dwarf Gouramis is identical to breeding Bettas, except your really do need a 10 gallon tank for them.

EDIT: Wow, I love how people take the time to read the question... Mollies, Guppies, Swordtails, Platties, Mosquito Fish, Pike Livebearers, and Goodids are all LIVEBEARERS, not EGG LAYERS.

Get at least ten 'red-eyed' tetras and put them into a 20 gallon long tank. Then spend some time trying to find out how to best 'breed them' ... then look closely in your tank, because those 'teeny tiny' little fish swimming around are baby red-eyed tetras. While the 'top size' of a red-eye is supposed to be 3" the ones I have are all 1-1/2-2-1/2 long, and I have four 'babies' that are just over half an inch. Red eyed tetras don't lay their eggs in a 'nest' or 'bundle' ... they 'scatter' them and you may or may not be able to see them ... but you WILL have baby fish if you get a school of red-eyes and put them into a tank by themselves. I do have one 'small' plecostama, too, but it's actually very 'shy' because of the red-eyes ... so you may or may not want one of those. HAVE FUN.

Mollies, we had some Mollies and they bred all the time. Kinda sensitive fish though: need good water conditions.

Guppies and mollies. My fancy tailed guppies have babies like crazy! Make sure you keep them separated though, or they are sure to get eaten.
