I recently snapped the key off in the ignition of my truck, and have had 2 locksmiths, and 2 friends out who know what they are doing, but none could get the key out. its jammed in there pretty tight. so one of my friends reccomended that I drill out the lock with a drill, and then use a screwdriver to start/stop the truck. Its a 1993 Chevy silverado, with tilt steering, and cruise control. dont' know if that helps...

Thanks in advance!

Drilling it out won't cause the side bar to drop to allow it to turn unless you destroy the whole column housing the ignition goes into. I always used a coping saw blade snapped in half---insert it into the ignition with the teeth facing the teeth of the broken key and remove it. Best to replace the ignition cylinder with a new one or replace the column with a salvage yard one---might be cheaper.

Ignition switches are fixed using Snap-off bolts. You will need to get a new switch and fixing bracket. take a hammer and smash the old switch off and fix the new one.

It is much easier to remove steering wheel, lock plate under it and replace the whole tumbler and key, which is held by 1 screw under the turn signal switch.
