I'm 17 and work at Jewel right now but at a local bestbuy they mentioned they were moving their store two stores down to a bigger location and that i should apply since i know computers. I make 7.60 at Jewel right now and get fifteen hours a week usually. What would the pay and schedule be like at Bestbuy?

The pay you can expect from Best Buy depends on a few factors. Most importantly is the cost of living in your area. I worked in McKinney, TX, which is about mid-range ($500-600 for a one-bedroom apartment) for cost of living. The full-time employees started at around $9.00, and the part-timers made about $8.00. You can push this number up by about 50 cents if you have some experience actually selling computers, but experience isn't a huge deal for Best Buy since they will train you in everything you need to know.

Best Buy is pretty good about working with your schedule, and if you've got some college courses a couple of days a week, they will gladly work with you. However, you're going to have difficulty if you're in high school and only available in the evenings. You'll still be able to get a job, but only part-time of course, and they will expect you to have no other scheduling restrictions. For fifteen hours a week, they will most likely work you for eight-hour shifts on weekends and what they foresee to be busy weekday evenings.

Availability is a huge thing for Best Buy, who tends to employ a lot of high school and college students. If you don't go to school, and your availability is wide open, I would definitely push that quality in your interview. You're quite a bit more valuable to the company if you can be called up to cover a shift or scheduled around the people with unavailabilities.

that's a low paying job. nobody really gives notice when they wanna quit retail, unless they have delusions of grandeur thinking they'll be store manager someday and stick with it. work there for the hourly and quit whenever.

I guess that would depend on your States miimum wage rate. Also if this a commisoned pay than it would depend on the value of what you sold
