My chainsaw chain broke. I got another but I cannot put it on. For some reason it doesn't fit. It is the right size.
Help.

Is the chain listed for your particular saw? Chain comes in different sizes for different saws. Assuming it is the correct chain, you have to adjust the bar tensioning screw back in so the chain is loose enough to fit. Then re-tighten it.

OK, this should be easy for you. there are 2 or 3 nuts on the right side where the chain bar connects to the saw. remove them, take off the housing, remove the bar from the saw. Install the chain on the bar first, slide the chain over the drive shaft, slide the bar onto the bolts. There will be an adjustment screw that is used to tighten the chain as it stretches. Its typically located between the chain bar bolts or on the left side of the bar. This will have to be turned in so the new chain on the bar can slide over the bolts. Good luck, hope this helps. I bet the chain adjustment screw is the reason it won't go on.
Just a note: Chains only cut in one direction, make sure the teeth are facing the right way.

Did you take the bar off?
After placing the chain onto the toothed sprocket you can slip the bar into the chain from behind making sure that you have fully loosened the chain tensioner to allow for slack.
Did you buy the correct chain?
Some bars take a thinner chain and some saws have had the bars replaced even before sale.I would take the saw to where you bought the chain. They will help you.

Yeah it really doesn't sound like you can be safe. The chain flying off can do real harm. You need someone to show you the broad range of chainsaw culture.

Water Displacement (formula) 40 is not the best for rusted links, try a penetrating oil instead or best solution is to purchase some new ones. I do not trust used chains that are rusted.

you have to back off the tension screw, its should be next to the bar at the motor base, and loosen the locking nuts that hold the bar on,
