Grand Tourer Injection?

2007-10-06 08:33:28 · answer #1 · answered by supergran 4 · 0 0

A grand tourer (Italian: Gran Turismo), (initialised GT), is a high-performance automobile designed for long-distance driving. Any such car could be considered a grand tourer, but the traditional and most common body style is the coupé (two door) with either a two-seat or a 2+2 seat arrangement.

GTi = GT + fuel injection so Gran Turismo Injection

It also stands for "pay through-the-nose for insurance".

It started on the continent. GT was (Grand Turismo) Grand Tourer, for chasing across Europe in style. Then Ford with their usual good taste and touch of class stuck it on the back of a Cortina for goodness sake. Others followed and the 'I' for injection was added. Some people just do not realise when their desire to impress gets embarassing. Most such labelled cars are now surpassed, and passed, by more impressive machines without the label.

I think the Golf GTD was Golf Turbo Diesel... I would say Golf Turbo Injection (Gasoline Type). I believe call it GTG is not appealing and back then Carburetors and were pretty normal. Fuel Injection was more for high end, sport and fast cars. Beside of marketing... I guess GTI suck for the sport trim.
