My fiance is coming home from the navy to visit and we always wanted to see the view of the city, so I want to take him there. Any help/directions please.

How about places just around San Jose, Milpitas, Mountain View, or even Santa Cruz...

first of all, congrats on the visit!

i grew up on the west side of san jose, and the "known" place to go for a view was parker ranch. it is a short drive from hwy 85, in the foothills of saratoga. trust me, its easy to get to.

take the de anza blvd/saratoga sunnyvale exit from hwy 85 and travel south. take a right at prospect road. the road will curve slightly to the right and you will see railroad tracks; be sure to turn left at this point to continue on prospect road. then take the second left onto parker ranch road. follow it "up" and eventually turn left onto parker ranch court. you will eventually come across and dead end of sorts and a turn around spot. park there (but not in front of the big house) and you will see a great overlook at night.

if you are like me, and need a map, just go to yahoo maps and type in: parker ranch ct., saratoga, ca.

have a great time!

if your in shape a hike to the top of mission peak takes about 45 min or so... sunset is great but take flashlights for the way back... from the top you can see on a clear day from down town San Jose to the bay bridge or even farther if there is no smog frog... it is a steep climb and it is very windy at the top but if you make it all the way it is extremely exciting. if you are not in shape you can stop at the many benches on the way up however you get a partial view mostly of just Fremont and directly across the bay because of the mountains. to get to the entrance from San Jose take 680 to the first mission Blvd and go right onto mission and right onto Stanford av. follow that till the end and there is a parking lot. it says it closes an hour after sunset but people park there over night. i would say wear layers because it can be cold at night and at the top but its a serious exercise so you will be sweating. it can take anywhere from 2 hours to 45 minutes. so plan according ly if you want to see a sunset. good luck

Twin Peaks. Great view of the city. You could probably map quest it.

Also, look at Conzelman Road. It winds up the hills across the Golden Gate Bridge, and yields photo opportunities that you will probably recognize from magazines, etc. Breathtaking view.

I used to go to these places during my college years, and a couple of times since then.

Up in the Hayward hills. I live near Cal State East Bay and there are a lot of good places to view the surrounding cities around there.
