Squirrel laying in tree squeaking, is it normal?

We have a squirrel laying in a tree in our yard. He is laying on a branch and every once in a while it squeaks. We tapped the tree and it ran into another one. Could it be hurt or is this normal?

Squirrels 'bark' a lot if they see something that upsets them, and the young ones usually practice this. It's completely normal.
