What is the function of the "Sensory Association" part of the brain?

It co-ordinates the senses, like left and right hand, eyes and their meaning to the body, the higher consciousness and certain areas higher yet. It may be what they think of as a sixth sense. The awareness seems to be a sense of that processed data. The sensory association areas seem to be all on the surface of the brain and the complex seems to be called the cerebral cortex or association cortex in one reference below. Thanks, I needed that.
