Hi. Always keep plenty of ventilation area. I use a breadboard to separate the laptop from my lap. Works good.

Despite the name, a laptop is NOT designed to operate sat on a lap.
It should sit on a solid flat surface, a breadboard / other tray will work fine.
Do NOT use with it sat direct on bedcovers etc, this WILL obstruct the vent slots.
If you want it cooler, you CAN buy special laptop coolers which are like a breadboard with some built in fans to help airflow arounf the base of it

You may have to invest in a little laptop pad that has fans on it. It plugs into your usb port and it will cool your laptop as well as keep your lap from getting hot.

A lot of companies currently sell a fan to place on the bottom of your laptop so that your lap nor your computers bottom will get hot. Try looking for it on:

I've seen this tray you can buy to put your laptop on. It has fans in it to keep the bottom cool. I thought I saw it at Best Buy.

you really can't get the laptop from getting so hot, that is normal. But if you don't want your lap to get hot from sitting it on your lap, you could try wearing more clothes or covering up with a blanket.
