No... if those type of lawsuits start, they will never end.

If this is the case, Harry Reid should sue Mtich McConnell (Senate Minority Leader) for going on the Sunday talk shows and falsifying his statement about the war being lost... matter of fact I've heard that lie about 100 times on tv.

Harry Reid actually said that if we continue down Bush's path then the war is lost. That's like someone calling you saying if you keep driving that South, you will never make it to your destination that is north of you... big difference than saying, you are not ever going to get there.

Just forgotten. That is the worst possible punishment for someone like him. A man who will do anything to get attention for hiomself except maybe the right thing. He made malicious statements that harmed The United States, the Marine Corps, the men involved and the reputation of the Senate. Ok, I guess the Senate has such a bad reputation it can't be hurt. Defeat at the polls he could live with. But the thought that nobody knows or cares who he is would shrivel his puny mind.

No. No politician should be sued for comments they made of a political nature, and Haditha (still under review, by the way) qualifies.
If you don't like what he said then don't vote for him again. That's your recourse and your right.

As private citizens, they have the right to sue him for slander. Murtha was using tax dollars to call them murderers when they weren't. The charges against them were dropped.

There were killings but it was the U.S. troops who came under fire first. They reacted, and it's unknown whether civilians were killed unnecessarily. That's what happens in war, it can't be helped. What would these liberals who point fingers at them do under similar circumstances? They would ask everyone whether they were an insurgent or not before defending themselves, I suppose.

John Murtha is both a United States congressman and a veteran. He has a responsibility to stand up for the rights and the values of the people in this nation, but especially, given his history, to those in the armed forces.

Therefore, it was extremely irresonsible, and I would say borderline treacherous, for him to convict them of murder before investigations were complete, before they had the benifit of trial. It was irresponsible for him to accuse them of killing innocent civilians in cold blood. For his own political advantage, he slandered their good names, trying them in the court of public opinion.

Now that they've been found INNOCENT (Acquitted), he needs to recind his statements. If he does not, he should indeed be sued for smearing their good names.

No, he should not be sued but his constituents should throw him out on his butt! Then he would have time to do PSA commercials for Mad Cow Disease!

"the haditha boys"?

Whether you want to deny it or not, there was a massacre of innocent civilians in Haditha, and it was not by insurgents.

Only if you are willing to let OJ Simpson sue everyone who said he was guilty also.
