Personally, I can't think of any government agency that runs to my satisfaction, other than the Military.

ck4829...don't confuse the military with the political animals that run it. If you wanted to have Iraq under control, they could have made it a grease spot long ago, and there would be no war there now. Our military is very efficient.

i hope we will stay the land of the free and it won't come to that. i don't want to be like the land of inefficient, higher taxes, waiting lists and all things Canadian or European. we are after all our own nation that has functioned quite well not being like a European nation let's keep it that way.

Distracted by Goldenrae's answer... How old are Peace Corp volunteers?
At what age does most preventative testing begin (a: 35-50).
How can you really judge services provided to healthy kids?!
ADDED (here's my actual answer): My parents reared 5 children as self-employed professionals (NEVER had health insurance, btw) and are now experiencing the dark and evil world of Medicare... Young and healthy kids, ask grandma and grandpa about socialized medicine.
ADDED (thanks Goldenrae, I had no idea they took 60 year olds). I'm an advocate for yearly checkups, especially for young women. These are affordable, actually. And so is the treatment if something comes up, assuming you catch it early. There are still medical care professionals who will work with those (of us) who have no health insurance. And there is still medicaid breaking the backs of states already...

None. There isn't a single government agency (excluding the military) that is run with any competence. I'd prefer that our helthcare systems stay exactly as they are than for the government to take over. I can't think of a single way that it could get worse than being managed by our government.

You are satisfied with the way things are going in Iraq, in Afghanistan, with the Office of Special Plans, etc.?

none that are available so far. I hope it runs as a free market group health plan that is subsidized by the government for people who cannot afford healthcare.
afterall, we all are already paying the bills of people who cannot pay when the health care providers pass the loss onto us inthe form of higher expenses.

Hopefully it will be run like the U.S. Coast Guard.
Efficient and the most bang for our taxdollar.
The USCG did an *outstanding* job during Hurricane Katrina!

I'm really surprised that anyone with eyes can see that the government hasn't largely infested the health care system. I challenge you to tell me any element of it that they are not significantly controlling.

The Peace Corps. Very successful initiative and I had the best health care of my life as a volunteer.

How about the Army or Navy, those are some pretty well run government institutions. model it after them, or what about the forest service, they have served us very well.
