x-1/x=6
Square both sides,
x^2+1/x^2 - 2 = 36
=> x^2+1/x^2 = 38

x- 1/x = 6 Square both sides

(x - 1/x)^2 = 6^2
(x - 1/x)(x - 1/x) = 36 use FOIL
x^2 + 1/x^2 - 2(x/x) = 36 but x/x = 1 therefore
x^2 + 1/x^2 - 2 = 36
x^2 + 1/x^2 = 38

x-1/x=6
(x-1/x)(x-1/x)=x^2-2+1/x^2=36
x^2+1/x^2=36+2
X^2+1/x^2=38
