I, for one, certainly did not support NAFTA just like most Americans. This seems to be a pet project of politicians from both parties and both parties also seem fine with allowing the illegal immigrants access to the US.......

Okay, you Republicans are right about two things. NAFTA and illegal immigration have nothing to do with each other. And Bill Clinton did sign the NAFTA. But here is what you forgot to mention. Or, did what you always do, and willfully omitted:
The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) started in June of 1990
when then Mexico President Carlos Salinas de Gortari and U.S. President
George Bush announced their intention to negotiate a free trade agreement.
Three years later, after considerable political debate, the U.S. Congress ratified it
by a vote of 234-201 in the House and 61 to 38 in the Senate in November of
1993. The implementing legislation then went to President Clinton for his
signature and on January 1, 1994 NAFTA went into effect.

And the connection between a trade bill and illegal immigration is what? You are asking about apples and oranges and don't know that? NAFTA, passed during the Clinton administration, was a free trade bill; if things had worked it would have effected immigration policy not at all but did get some businesses moved to Mexico which had probably stopped some illegal immigration but not much. Illegal immigration is a totally different matter and has nothing to do with NAFTA.

None of the Republicans I know supported Nafta.
Even former Senator Phil Graham (R.) appologised for ever getting us involved in it!
Plus, the American People never wanted Nafta either if you remember.
The only people at the meetings were big business and politicians, no labor unions, no workers groups, no ordinary taxpayers.
It is a *Collosal Mistake*.
We need to get O-U-T of Nafta!
Where are all those "high-paying manufacturing jobs" that Clinton promised us if Nafta were passed?
We.ve *lost* about 2 million of them!
Nafta benefits a very small very wealthy group of people only.

well, the only people that even deserve to call this THEIRS are the Native Americans. Everyone else since then, has been illegal immigrants. The government doesn't care at all about illegal immigration. After all, we are going to merge as ONE country. Canada, Mexico and the U.S.

Ya know, the North American Union?

HA!! How many of you really know your facts? Addicted to CBS and CNN. You look at what the media is feeding you and you never ask questions. They only tell you want they want you to know. They keep you busy with things to do so you cant see whats "going on behind the scenes" type of thing. Dont believe me? Ask logical questions. Allow yourself time to receive that answer, digest it and then WAKE THE F*** up people!!

I never have supported NAFTA, think it's a travesty and feel very badly that the people of MX are having their environment spoiled by American companies and those who live along the Lower Rio Grande valley are suffering markedly increased instances of cancer and birth defects resultantly.

Clinton enacted NAFTA. Why are you directing this question to Republicans?

Liberals need to learn who their icons are..........

Upset over illegals is putting it mildly. The problem comes from those who say: "even though they are illegal they have rights". If a house is packed with illegals our police can not knock on their door and ask to see their green card or even ask for ID. The press is not even listing the names of employers or landlords that are giving them safe haven.

How can these illegals even have the right to a life in the US? Why do terrorists have any rights? Why can convicted murders tie up our court system because they do not like the drugs used for lethal injection?

Why is the American tax paying society subjected to providing for the illegal RIGHTS of "life liberty and happiness" of those who do not legally even have the RIGHT to be here in the first place?

Clinton is responsible for NAFTA, that goes to show you that republicans know how to work with a D president. NAFTA is legal. On the other hand illegal immigration is exactly what it is ILLEGAL

I was a Republican just prior to the Nafta push and decided to support Perot since it sounded like he was right, and now we know he was right. Nafta was the single biggest lobbying effort ever undertaken by corporate American and foreign investors, $50 billion was spent wining and dining our politicians to get it in place and now you see the result, middle class Americans have suffered the most and immigration enforcement was halted so they could flood the cheap workers in, the new world order is rolling full steam ahead.

You've received some excellent answers. I'd like to know where you got the idea that Republicans all support NAFTA.

As for your comment, "...and now you're upset..." WRONG answer, sister. Most conservatives have been upset over illegal immigration for decades.

another overgeneralization that is far too common on this forum.
I am sure not all republicans approve of NAFTA, just like not all LIBS did, and was appauled at the Republican majority that passed it, and the Democrat President that signed it.
but yes, for the ones(dem and rep)who do, and oppose mexican immigration, it is a conflict of interest.
Just goes to show, that people who work for a living, oppose it, while the people they are working for don't.
