My stock portfolio is through the roof...I have a new home with locked in 5.25% rate....My job is solid....THIS AFTER 9/11, Clinton Dot Com Bust and Afghan and Iraq War, Oil crises, Mortgage crises..and every other crises liberals want to claim......So, why all the crying out there? I can't be the only one doing well....And no, I was never given a dime of help to get where I am today.....

Part of what is fueling my economic stability is the massively stupid economic policy. I diversified into Canadian stocks and foreign markets, and all the jitters about the US economy that devalue our currency actually improve my bottom line.

I am doing well because I worked hard, saved my money, and invested wisely. I lived below my means and am going to be able to live comfortably after retirement. BUT
Unlike you, I don't claim to be self-made without a dime of help. I got my education at public schools, and my parents never paid a cent in tuition. Someone did, though: the tax payers. I worked through college on the work-study program. My paycheck came from the state, thanks to the tax-payers in the state where I lived. I had a federally insured loan. Who paid the interest between the time that I started using the money and when I started paying it back? Not me. The American taxpayers who supported the program paid the interest until I could get a job and join their ranks. I drive to work on roads I didn't build. I use an internet I didn't invent. I suspect every aspect of my life has been dependent on an infrastructure built and paid for by American taxpayers.
Instead of labeling the people, try to identify the real problem. I do not know you, but I hope you do not live in complete isolation from people who haven't been as lucky as you nd I have been.

My brother and his wife have also lived within their means and worked hard, but on a small family farm, they have not been able to save money the way I have.

I know there is no moral superiority in my success. I'm doing better than ever, but I know good, hard working, kind hearted people who still struggle every day. You should meet them. You'd like them.

My family is having a tough time as prices have sky-rocketed for food and essentials, and we are educated professionals. Our utilities are up by 1/3 to 1/2 in the heavy usage months the past couple of years, and we live in a modest, well-insulated home.

There have been lots of layoffs from white-collar jobs in my area, and salaries have plummeted in the private sector and stalled in the public sector.

Our property taxes also have sky-rocketed, and I don't see how elderly people living on fixed incomes make it.

We are lucky we have health insurance through our work. A lot of people are not so lucky, and it's taking its toll. I'm pretty much a centrist--I think the dems and repubs both are wingnuts these days, and I'll have some soul-searching to do in the voting booth.

Did you thrive during the dotcom bust, 9/11, oil and mortgage crises? Were you even alive when these things occurred? There have always been people who were successful, even during the bleakest times in our history. That fact does not make any given time good for all.

You are one out of 50 people who are making it. For every one like you there are 49 others who can't make ends meet, have to drive long commutes to work each day, and get robbed by gasoline prices. Meanwhile the cost of living is going up, inflation has gone up drastically since the Clinton years, and over a trillion dollars has gone to the Iraq war. That's a TRILLION DOLLARS that could have been spent on civic and social programs for everyday people.

Where are liberals saying the economy is in a shambles? A more accurate statement would be that liberals believe more and more wealth is being concentrated into fewer and fewer hands, that jobs are being shifted overseas, that the majority of the people have seen very little gains in real income over the past eight years or so, that many people have to work two jobs to make ends meet, etc...

Just because you are doing well doesn't mean everybody is -- that is just poor logic....

You never got a dime of help to get where you are -- I doubt that -- I assume you were raised by middle class parents who provided you with food, shelter and more for at least 18 years -- that you went to a free public school...provided by taxpayer dollars etc., that your mortgage rate is low in part due to protections provided by the federal government etc.

Well, all I can say is: Good for you!

I'm not doing well, and neither is my state. Many, many citizens have NO stock portfolio at all--and--with education as bad as it is today, wouldn't recognize a stock portfolio or its worth if it was handed to them. People in Michigan are lucky to have minimum wage jobs right now. And I KNOW we are not the only ones!

Because some of us live in states where the governors like granholm in michigan have run all the companies out of state and they have wiped out the housing market and sold out to foriegn companies moving in offering less job security..... She solicits foriegn companies more than she gives breaks to american companies and by the way she is a democrat.

Liberal politicians say that the economy is in shambles because they know their base will take their word for it, parrot it, and never do an ounce of research to find out the truth. The economy is in great shape under GW Bush. Their people believe all of their talking points, most of which are easily shown to be untrue. It's all smoke and mirrors with the democrats, because that's what works for them.

You must be a friend of the Bush family. My husband has a stable job with the Post Office and we own our own home, but we seem to have been struggling more in the past eight years than we did when Clinton was in office.

They are attempting to prep the country into believing that GW left them with a mess and in order to clean things up and get back on course they will have to raise your/our taxes.
