Pretty much the question. From my understanding, 65nm refers to the process to create it which makes it cheaper to produce. But with people claiming the Xbox 360 will run "cooler" because of it I'm beginning to wonder if thats true.

nm stands for Nanometers. So the 60nm chip is smaller than the 90nm. It contains less material, so that's why they are cheaper to produce. And since it's smaller, it generates less heat.

It varies, some processors like the AMD XP2600 Barton core in this PC tend to run hotter than the rival Intel P4 processors that were around at the time. Then again laptop processors like the AMD Turion tend to run cooler than the Intel Celeron, although some people say that in general AMD processors run hotter than Intel. It doesn't matter much as long as you have a good cooling solution, good cooling is something I'd recommend on any PC, whether or not you overclock it. Good cooling is obvioulsly very important if you do decide to overclock though. Edit:- My AMD gives temps. of 28ºc to 35ºc idling, depending on room temp.and no more than 40ºc under load. This is using a YS-Tech high performance fan with an Evercool aluminium and copper heatsink, Servisol thermal paste and a rear extractor fan in the case. So, although AMD CPUs do often run hot, they can be cooled well without having to resort to expensive water cooling solutions.

WHY DO YOU THINK BOTH AMD AND INTEL ARE MOVING TO 65nm ?????????????????????????????????????????
primary reason is MUCH LESS HEAT not cheaper production - they both spend hundred million dollars FOR EACH FACTORY to upgrade them to be able to do 65nm precessing - that is expensive not cheap = primary reason is LESS HEAT IN MICROPROCESSORS
