Exactly what the question says, why is posture so important when playing the piano? I mean can't you play well slouching, too?

If you are slouching, you aren't able to put more feeling in to the song.

No, you really can't play as well when you are slouching because when you sit up, your physical range is extended, your control is better, you are able to breath more easily -- and breathing is important because playing the piano is hard work when you get into some of the major works.

If you are slouching, your wrists are more likely to sit on the edge of the keys. If that happens, you won't be able to move as quickly or as accurately, and you also run the risk of getting Carpal Tunnel Syndrome from the bad position. If you sit up straight, you are more inclined to pick your wrists up.
