After learning from his friend Paul McCartney that owning music rights was a good investment, Michael Jackson turned around and bought the rights to the Beatles music. I believe it was after his success with the "Thriller" album in 1983. I heard Janet say it was a fair business move. I think it was a stab in the back to Paul. I wish McCartney still had control over his own music. I never understood how or why he lost it but I do know Record Companies have always been too greedy (sleazy). That is why the Beatles started the Apple label in the first place (and Zeppelin with SwanSong). I look forward to seeing the movie "Across the Universe" but I would much rather hear original Beatles soundtrack. In advertising, many high ticket product target consumers are beatlemania generation, in their 40s thru 60s. You hear many '60s & '70s music in ads today (and next decade the 80s), yet you never hear the Beatles. I wish we could hear them while those who remember are still alive! Peace

i think it's good that we don't hear beatles songs in advertising... i hate it when they use good songs in commercials! it takes away from the dignity and coolness of the song...like sweet home alabama in the KFC commercials...WTH?

i have read the beatles biography, and i read that they made many bad moves during the 60s, it said that they sold rights to a ompany to make tshirts and other stuff and that company madea lot of money. since brian epstein had no experience, he did not know how to make any good decisions. i also know that george harrison has his songs since the only ones that were taken away were john and paul songs. led zeppelin is the opposite, jimmy page knew how to do business and got like 95% of the profits.
but the beatles did make many bad business decisions during the 60s.

No, he's not the reason at all---in fact, the beatle's book that he owned was used for collateral for about 3 different loans and right now it's all tied up in bankruptcy court.

Although Michael Jackson did own the catalog for a while, he sold it to pay off one of the many child rape suits he was involved in. However, that's not the real reason for not hearing Beatles music; the real reason is something wicked and evil and seemingly unstoppable. The real reason is:

YOKO

As far as I know yes, but he must be getting a bit stuck for cash. Now Target is using a Beatle's song in it's commercials.

Beatles music should never be used for advertising and movies. Advertising cheapens the music and you lose the original meaning of the songs.

Micheal Jackson sold the rights to the beatles (not sure to who tho) and thats why across the universe was able to be made. if micheal still had the rights, we wouldn't have gottne to see such an awesome movie :)

Yes, he is. He owns the rights to all the Beatles' music, and can do whatever he wants with them. Michael Jackson sucks!
