Hi,
Pahrump has grown a lot over the past three years. It is a little distance from Las Vegas, but there are a lot of people that live there that commute to Vegas daily for work. The city has been agressive the past couple of years concerning the image that the "houses" have given to their city. Now that they have grown, they are pushing the "houses"(and their tax money) out. Even though it is still a small community, there is a good selection of new homes there. There are a few major chain stores that have been built there over the past three years also. If you were considering the commute to Las Vegas, it would definately be worth a look.
As far as regular jobs there, I would say that it is still limited to the casino jobs. It would be a much calmer place to live than Las Vegas.
Hope this was helpful!

2 years ago, I was told Parump was going to be the next Las Vegas and then was a good time to buy land before the prices go through the roof. My wife and I drove from LA to Parump. The trip alone is another story. The bottomline, the place was in the middle of nowhere. We knew right away land prices were going no where. It also was far from Las Vegas.

First off, it's "pahrump" -- "pah" is an indian word for water but I don't think it means water on the butt. It is in Nye County and prostitution is legal there. It is basically a bedroom community for Las Vegas, but with a murderous commute over the Spring Mountains -- a deadly stretch of highway. There are several casinos out there and land has gone up in price pretty steeply. I really wouldn't look at it as a place to get a job unless you want to work in a casino or a whorehouse. If you are considering moving out here, Vegas would be a much better bet right now.

It is a small town. Way calmer then Vegas. In general things happen slower there. for the most part you can do what you want on your land with out others or the government getting in to your business. the town has a lot of retirees.
For jobs you have one of the casinos there or walmart and other smaller retail.
It is an hour drive from Las Vegas going over a small mountain.

Parump is a few hours north of Vegas.
Its a nice afternoons drive, not a commute.
It is a portal to Death Valley tho.
It is kind of laid back, with only a couple of small casinos.
Not much else is going on.
If your retired, on on a income you can do from home than go for it.
You may also want to check out Jean, or Mesquite.

My GOD... I haven't heard that town name in 50 years. When I was on the Test Site we had a repeater located on that little hill behind the town... as I remember it... that wasn't much of a town and it's a long drive to Las Vegas so it's not like you can live there and commute.

so, so, so much in agreement with "In the Beginning"'s post. If you're looking to purchase one of these, you're probably looking to purchase something that looks like a wolf and acts like a dog - which is extremely rare, seeing as the more wolf genes present, the more likely the animal will look (and act) like a wolf. And seeing especially that you're not just looking to purchase a hybrid, that you want a pure wolf...my God! I hope you're got a huge territory and a very well-paid lawyer, not to mention that owning a wild animal is illegal in many states. there is so much more to a pet than its looks. don't go out and buy a wolf-hybrid just because "oh look, i'm a big manly man/in touch with nature/some other bull and i went and got a cool half-wolf dog!" there's absolutely nothing that a wolf hybrid has over something like a malamute or a husky in terms of pet traits - sociability, trainability, etc. it's just pure ego to assume that you'll be able to deal with it because your cousin has a mean pitbull and it likes you - this is another animal entirely. and if you're not getting this animal as a pet, what are you getting it for? you can't use it as a hunter, because it'll tear up whatever animal you're hunting (and it's likely to run off). you can't keep it as a guard dog because it's just as likely to tear up your home as guard it. the only thing you could possibly do with such an animal is to fight it, and that's completely inhumane. so instead of stroking your enormous, misguided ego, go get yourself a nice husky or something.
