It doesn't sound unusual but maybe you should go to the vet to make sure

Although Ive never actually read it in a book, I'm quite certain that it is normal to have some small random speckling. I've had them on every single ig I've owned. Now larger specks could be a form of mold/fungus infections while a more generalized darkening could caused by a thermal burn, skin reaction to temperature or stress. If they move, then they are mites. BTW Reptile Vets are expensive and it would take you 1-2 weeks for your ig to be seen with an appointment. It would be more prudent to join Iguana Mailing List on Yahoo groups and post pictures so others keepers with more experience can comment on what they think the speckling is.

he may not be a true green iguana that is normal do not worry just make sure the spots are not coming off if they are take him to a vet your iguana may have mites what do you give him in his cage if it is just wood or a tree from outside he has got mites you have to use beech wood or a form of wood that will not rot when it gets wet good luck

This is normal. They will change color a lot as they grow!
