I wish animal testing was entirely phased out. There are so many other ways of testing products, drugs etc. that are accurate & humane. Besides, testing products isn't even necessary much of the time.
Practically every week there's a news report of yet another drug being pulled off the market b/c it is dangerous. This should be sufficient proof that animal testing isn't even accuate when the data is applied to humans. I've read that pennicillin is toxic to guinea pigs & that owls are immune to cyanide.
Animal testing for beauty & household products seems particularly unnecessary & cruel. Whenever possible, I buy & use cruety-free products & refuse to purchase *any* cosmetic, fragrance or cleaning product if it isn't cruelty-free.

You have to remember that there have been a lot of medical breakthroughs that just wouldn't have been possible without testing--organ transplants, or penicillin, for example.
Also remember that the majority of animals tested on are invertibrae such as fruit flies =).
I do agree that, in some cases, it's extremely inhumane--Huntingdon Life Sciences is enough to make anyone shudder in disgust. They were punching dogs in the face and taunting them... And the dogs & monkeys were screaming... and all for artificial SUGAR! Imagine. It's on Youtube if anyone's curious :[.
So, my point of view--if done as humanely as possible, and for medical research, animal testing is necessary. If done inhumanely, or for other reasons (cosmetics, foods, etc), it should be disallowed.
If only there was an alternative to animal testing and we could permanently banish it and still be able to research and find cures, then, that would be fantastic <3.
(Quick note to anyone who supports PETA--don't. That's my last word on the subject. Google "petakillsanimals" if you want to know more.)

I agree that it's a horrible thing, yet it's sometimes necessary to use animals for testing to ensure that a medication or treatment therapy is safe to save human lives. I suppose it's a matter of priorities.
Recently, there was a Nova episode on chimpanzees in America that had been used for various types of medical testing and such. There is an organization that helps those chimps, many of whom are infected with HIV, hepatitis and other incurable diseases. If you haven't seen it, the program is definitely worth watching.

I don't agree with animals being tested for things like make-up, however some animal testing is a good thing. Thanks to their sacrifices, animals have provided us with treatments for cancer, AIDS, neurological diseases, rabies, distemper, small pox, anthrax, diabetes, liver and heart disease, genetics, spiral cord injuries, strokes, organ transplants, insulin discovery, polio prevention, etc. So some animal testing has really helped to advance the medical field (for both humans and animals). Like I said, I don't agree with testing make-up and other unnecessary things on animals, and I don't like to think about the animals being tested on and dying, but animal testing has done a lot to help other animals and humans. Without some animal (and human) testing, we could never learn about certain diseases and how to treat or even cure them, so it's not always a bad thing.

i hate it too. they have proved that what may cure animals, may poison humans so it is not acurate and there is no point to it. they have found alternatives but are just too cheap to use them. this is a cruel and unfair world, especially to animals, they have done every thing we ask them to and how do we repay them? we jab needles in them, poison them and neglect them as simple "lab rats" thats why people like us take stands, post questions like this and do research. i applaud you for being against this. you are a great person.
