It was one of the first places where civilization was even possible, owing to the fact that there was the right mix of elements to bring about large scale agriculture. Agriculture brought about a stable food supply which meant that cities could be built and that one could have a standing army (instead of needing all available labour to just sustain life)

Once cities and armies started happening then people became arrogant and wanted more cities and more armies with of course resulted in wars of conquest. In the maelstrom of competing factions various civilizations came to have the upper hand and then vanished when a newer stronger force evolved.

we are just learning about this in school. it was cause it was right in the middle of every thing. with fertile soil! the soil was so rich cause of the river over flowing. it was the center of traid and took in many difrent qalities of difernt caultures. it was a melting pot
