I love teaching and I am teaching for the past decade. I have taught to students with varied background (doctors to school children) and of various ages. I am a doctor myself but have decided to change my profession to become a school teacher. I am currently in the US and would like to get a teacher certificate/license. Would it be possible, if yes, how? if not, what are the options?

Of course you can! You're a doctor and you're wondering if you can become a teacher???? You obviously have true reasons to become a teacher if your are leaving the health field. You sound like you would be the perfect canidate. You are obviously going to have to go back to school so you should probably start looking up the best college and in a year or so you can have your teaching certificate. I'm a college student thinking about becoming a teacher and I'm taking my first education class. I have to give 20 hours of classroom observation by the end of the semester. Those are the sort of things you would endure, but it seems like a very rewarding job.

Yes! You can definitely get a teaching degree! You could actually enter a school as a lateral-entry teacher. If you are lateral-entry it means that you have a degree in another field but are interested now in becoming a teacher. Once you have your job, you are expected to start working on the actual teaching degree itself. It usually ends up being a 2 year process. Good luck to you! As a teacher of 8 years, I have to tell you that the job is quite rewarding and I love it immensely!!!

Oh, and don't worry about not knowing how to "teach" per say. Once you get a job, you will be assigned a teaching mentor and he/she will help you for the first 3 years of your teaching career.

Of course it's possible. We are always looking for, and needing good dedicated teachers. You would have to go to school to earn your teaching certificate.

In America, all things good are possible. Talk to a teacher's college or a University about that credential, you're probably a shoo-in for it. Best of luck.
