I done my dodge caravan in 30 minutes...they sell hitches that are made for your frame of the auto you have..and there are already holes in the frame that match the holes in the hitch excactly..Most autos though that keep thier spare tire underneath the back require you take the tire off and keep elsewhere..They are real easy to install..

Being handy is nice but does he have any tools? Most vehicles can be fitted with a hitch that will require no welding. In fact, I would not weld a hitch to a vehicle at all except my old farm truck and I didn't even do that. You are not supposed to drill or cut on vehicle frames.
As far as wiring, that's the more difficult part. Most vehicles can be fitted with an adapter that makes it easy but some are hard to find and some can not be found and you have to match them up manually. That is not that hard "if" you know what you are doing. If you don't, it can cause a tremendous and expensive headache.

First of all U Haul will RENT them often. Second; they will advise the proper hitch regarding ball size/ tongue weith; and hauling weight.

Obviously some are welded, but U Haul won't give you one of those.

Certainly both should go; ask as many questions as it takes to learn; and without knowing at all what type you'll have to get it's difficult to say. DO NOT just get a ball that attaches through a bumper.

Bolt on is likely, but ask about hitch to frame/ hitch to bumper/ etc.

A Sienna is likely to not haul much larger than a 5 x 10; or a medium sized boat and trailer; safely.

I'de pay them to do it,they have the ramps to easily get under the vehicle and the right tools all set up and ready to go, therefore they can do it MUCH quicker. I used to run a U-H Hitch-World and many hitch and wire jobs were done in 45 mins. or even less.

I am a Tech. and I had mine installed. It took about 45 minutes and was worth it. I did not want to see my boat passing me on the highway.I am sure he can do it but in how many hours and what about the wiring. Not worth the hassle.

Some vehicles are easy others are a royal pain and still others require welding. Without seeing it or knowing what make and model pretty hard to tell.

All of your questions are predicated on what you are hauling. I have seen trailers detach from improper installation, it is scary, and your insurance may not cover such an occurence.
