From an eighteen year old's perspective, no. Those books are amazing, just like the author who wrote them, who is well over 21. The books deal with very adult issues, and I think that's why teens like them so much..they imply that teens, like adults, can comprehend more than pimples and prom.

Don't worry about being too old. I'm 40 and I read YA books like crack. I do want to write in the genre, which is a good excuse. My favorite paranormal series is Darkest Powers by Kelley Armstrong and the first book is The Summoning. For vampires, I enjoyed Evernight by Claudia Gray and I loved Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan. It's about zombies. Hunger Games is worth a look too if you haven't already and of course, Harry Potter. Guilty pleasures perhaps, but I don't care. Happy reading.

Why should it be weird? Just because a book is mostly aimed at the teenage market, doesn't mean that it is solely for them.. just as many "adult" books are read by teens... and many of them introduced to them by Teachers and other adults... Just enjoy reading them and what the heck!

I am old enough to be your mom and I have three girls from 15 to 10. I read everything they do. I have found more enjoyable books in the ya section in the past few years than in the adult section. Sure, I have a few favored authors that I follow in the adult section, but who wouldn't enjoy the Pendragon series by DJ MacHale or The Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan or The Wizard series by Diane Duane or the Sisterhood of the Traveling pants or The astonishing adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl? And believe me I bought 3 copies of Harry Potter #7 and I finished mine first!!! It doesn't matter what shelf your book comes from as well as it is well written and enjoyable to you!!
FYI, The Uglies was the best of the three! lol we read them already!!! Happy reading.

Nope! I went to school to be a teacher myself, and got reintroduced to YA lit! Besides the fact that they are a quick read, there are some that are very well-written and all adults should read them, especially if they have teenagers. These books give an insight into how teenagers think.
I highly recommend "Speak" by Anderson (her first name escapes me at the moment) and "A Great and Terrible Beauty" and "Rebel Angels" by Libba Bray. I actually want to read Uglies, I've heard great things about it. I'm also planning to read "Before I die," by Jenny Downham, the reviews on it are amazing!

You are not alone! A large number of adults read and enjoy children's literature and it is perfectly normal - I know because I do it too!! And I, of course, "am practically perfect in every way" (like Mary Poppins!!). Also, keep in mind that 99.9% of these books are also written by adults. So there you go.

No, I don't think it's strange. You're not that much older than a teen, but even if you were in your 40's or something it wouldn't be that strange. Harry Potter was for kids, and lots of people from different age groups read those books. Read what you want. Teen books are great for quick/light reading.

nope, not weird at all!
my mother for an instand almost only read book originally written for teenagers.
If you like a book, you should read it, never mind what the "label"says, who cares?
now what IS weird is that I'm a teenager, and school is forcing me to read books for adults (not that I mind that, I mean I read as much adult books as for teenagers, but we have read them in dutch, and then there is no fantasy :-(.....)
