but how do you actually get to find the squaroot of 3?

Well tan(π/6) = 1/sqrt(3)
cot(π/6) = sqrt(3)

cot (Ï/6) = 1 / tan (Ï/6) = 1 / (1/â3) = â3

cot (pi/6) = adj/opp = sqrt(3), since for pi/6 angle, adj = sqrt(3) and opp = 1.
