Knitting does not ravel from the bottom up. Even if you were able to unpick the cast on row (this is sometimes done if you want to add length to a sleeve, or knit in the other direction, although a provisional cast on is a better method) and remove the slip knot, or even if you cut the cast on off the knitting isn't going to run. Why? Because the loops are built on top of one another and they only run from the top down (your panty hose run because they are knit from the top to the toe and if you get a hole in the toe it runs up becaue you're wearing the fabric upside down). You need to weave your tail in sufficiently, which means your tail needs to be at least 6 inches long when you start, so that it won't pop out. Many novice knitters only leave a couple of inches which can cause it to slip out, but it won't run. If that's what you did, take a needle and matching thread and tack the tail's end to a stitch as invisibly as possible.

If you weave it in it will stick, specially if you leave at least 5 cm / 2" for you to weave in.
Even when you do not weave it in, it would not undo the knitting, as the structure is secure.

Washing should anchor it even more secure.

It the item is made with wool, washing will actually help secure the end in place.

If item is made with synthetic, weave tail 1/2 way in then weave back *through* itself to secure it.
