The best percussionist of recent times is Evelyn Glennie. She is also deaf, which makes her talent even more striking. She plays mostly classical stuff, though.

The only female rock drummer I can think of is Meg White, of the White Stripes.

Mo (Maureen) Tucker played drums in the Velvet Underground. How well? I don't know enough about drumming to say.

There are a few! to be joined in a few years by my six year old daughter.
She is drumming like a demon and aspires to be like John Bonham...
like him she started by building her own 'kit' from pans & stuff in the kitchen, she was about 18 months old at the time!!
