I have windows xp home edition. The brightness bar is constantly showing when I turn on the computer, and it won't go away for long. Like I tried pressing the button with an [X] on it and it makes the brightness bar go away as long as I keep on pressing it, when I dont eventually it will come back. I tried lowering the brightness as an experiment and it is really hard to lower, and when it does, after I stop pressing that button it slowly makes it go back to 100. When I turn off the power button on the monitor it goes away for a few seconds. Sometimes it just goes away on its own for a while, but then comes back. It is really annoying since it is in the middle of screen. I also tried the auto adjust button but with no luck. Please help.

If the button is stuck, try spraying it with canned air and see if blowing the dust etc out helps.

Sounds like a button is stuck. Disconnect the moniter from the computer and unplug the monitor. Press each button of the monitor several times, gently, but firmly. Do this for a few minutes, you won't be able to tell if it's worked of course until you plug back in.

The problem isn't Windows, it's your monitor. If it doesn't respond to the controls, and one of the control bars is remaining on display when it shouldn't, the controls are broken. You can look for some type of reset on the monitor, but if there isn't one, all you can do is try to replace the monitor if it's under warranty, or buy a new one. Sorry I can't give you anything better, but from what you're describing, I think those are your only options.

Sounds like a faulty switch mechanism on the monitor.

If under warranty, get it repaired/replaced by manufacturer.

If not it might be almost as cheap to buy a new monitor as to get someone to repair it
