After the break-up of the Ottoman Empire following WWI, France, Britain and Italy took control over control of the Middle East and decided to create these political states, many of which had never existed before. Their borders were based on geography rather than religious or ethnic groups.
The discovery of oil has brought prosperity but most people never benefited. There is a massive discrepancy in the distribution of wealth.
The creation of the state of Israel has further increased tensions.
You mix in differences in beliefs, politics, the perceived world view of Middle Easterners, American, British and yes, French and Russian/Soviet intervention in those belief and politics and it shouldn't be hard to see why things are the way they are.

It has always been unstable read some history books or the bible.
It is probably because it is ruled by unstable people namely religious zealots.
Zealots in any Field are very dangerous.
It doesn't matter if they are Muslim, Baptist, Catholic or What ever.
IT maybe something in the water or the lack of it.

One of the most profoundly important reasons that the US was able to go from a colony to the world's only superpower in just over 200 years is the fact that it was able to EVOLVE politically ,economically and socially without any significant interference from other countries .Being somewhat "isolated" in North America was obviously helpful.
All of this to say that the over-riding reason that sees the Middle East today in the mess it is in is simply because since the early 20 th century the region has been a hot bed of international interference,wars etc all as a result of oil and the drive to own/control the oil.
After WW1,the allies sat in Paris and simply carved up the Middle East remnents of the Ottoman Empire among themselves with each getting a share of the oil resourses. The Allies did not give a damn about the peoples of the region,their wants,needs,aspirations,hopes etc and just un-believably gerrymandered entire countries out of "WHOLE CLOTH " such as Jordan and Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
It soon began obvious to the Western powers that in order for them to benefit from a STABLE relatively low cost oil supply t DICTATORSHIPS were needed to keep the restless Arab/Muslims in line .
As a result the allies,led by the US began to fully support militarily,economically and politically a number of ruthless dictators.
An excellent example of this practise was the overthrow by the US of the DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED GOVERNMENT OF IRAN in 1953 .This US atrocity was as a result of the silly Iranians having this weird idea that THEIR natural resourses (oil) belong to IRANIANS not to Americans.

From 1979-1990 ,the US fully supported the Butcher of Bagdad even after discovering that he had genocided his own Kurds.
Today the US continues to TOTALLY support vile murderous dictatorships in Saudi Arabia,Egypt ,Kuwait and a host of smaller states.
The Arab/Muslims in all these countries know full well that they too could be evolving politically if it were not for the US fully supporting their DICTATOR GOVERNMENTS. This is why when the dictators are removed like with the Shah and Saddam,the citizens of these countries vent their totally justified hatred and rage agains America andd Americans.
In summary,the US led atrocities in the region and it's widespread support of dictators has simply politically frozen the region in time for at least the past hundred years and made political evolution towards democracy,liberty,freedom and meaningful stability impossible.
In Iraq today ,the monumentally hypocritical US after having waged an illegal war against Iraq all based upon a pack of filthy lies that has resulted in the slaughter of over 400,000 innocent Iraqi civilians, is now bitching about the Iraqis not "coming up to the plate forming a stable government".
THEY CANNOT BECAUSE THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN GIVEN THE CHANCE TO POLITICALLY EVOLVE AND LEARN THE ART OF COMPROMIZE AND ACCOMODATION WHICH IS THE KEY TO GOVERNING .
They do NOT have these abilities BECAUSE THE US by supporting dictators, PREVENTED THEM FROM developing these skills.
Like demanding that a five month old baby SHOULD WALK ,demanding Iraqis to run an effective government is simply IMPOSSIBLE because neith the baby or the Iraqis have ACQUIRED/LEARNT the skill sets necessary to do so .
Remembering that it took the US a couple of hundred years to hone the skills of running an effective democratic government ,today and again because of the US full support of dictators,the Arab/Muslims just do not have the wherewithall to manage/run such a democratic government in a stable manner .As a result, the only thing holding the Middle East from imploding are the US supported dictators.How horribly ironic and a condemnation of the atrocities that the US has perpetrated. both in the Middle East and beyond.

the middle east has been unstable for around 5000 years as a result of ABRAHAM DISOWNING HIS FIRSTBORN SON IN FAVOR OF THE ONE GOD PROMISED HIM AND TOLD HIM TO WAIT FOR. HE DIDN'T WAIT AND AS A RESULT THINGS HAVE BEEN IN AN UPHEAVAL EVER SINCE. IN ADDITION WHEN MUHAMMED FOUNDED THE MUSLIM RELIGION THE ZEALOTS AND MANIACS WHO ADOPTED HIS TEACHINGS TWISTED THEM TO THE POINT THAT THEY BEGAN OVER RUNNING OTHER COUNTRY'S AND GIVING THE INHABITANTS THE CHOICE OF CONVERTING TO ISLAM OR DIEING. THIS OF COURSE DID NOT SIT WELL WITH MOST PEOPLE BUT THE MUSLIMS GOT A LOT OF CONVERTS BUT PEOPLE STILL FEEL RESENTMENT AGAINST THEM.
