I have windows xp home edition. The brightness bar is constantly showing when I turn on the computer, and it won't go away for long. Like I tried pressing the button with an [X] on it and it makes the brightness bar go away as long as I keep on pressing it, when I dont eventually it will come back. I tried lowering the brightness as an experiment and it is really hard to lower, and when it does, after I stop pressing that button it slowly makes it go back to 100. When I turn off the power button on the monitor it goes away for a few seconds. Sometimes it just goes away on its own for a while, but then comes back. It is really annoying since it is in the middle of screen. I also tried the auto adjust button but with no luck. Please help.

Sounds like a faulty switch mechanism on the monitor.

If under warranty, get it repaired/replaced by manufacturer.

If not it might be almost as cheap to buy a new monitor as to get someone to repair it

Did you need to ask this 4 times ?

It is a monitor problem. There are two buttons in the front panel of your monitor for adjusting brightness. One would increase the brightness and the other decreases it. Your problem is that the "increase brightness" button is stuck in, that is why it is hard to decrease the brightness and that it turns by its own to 100%. Try to unstuck this button by moving it sideways, pressing it many times or hitting it gently. … Good luck.
