I dated a guy named Ulyssus and he didn't have any problems with his name. With a plain surname like white, it adds pizzaz. Other names I could suggest were ones actually used in my family (they are all deceased now).

Leon
Sebastian
Sylvester
Gavin
Linus
Magnus (on my name list, but not popular with Y!A posters)

I don't know what you consider unusual, but I really like the name Brooks for a boy, how about Brooks Owen or Owen Brooks

I feel bad for the child. He will be picked on if you name him Ulyssus. Why not make that a middle name so you can save him a lot of grief"?
Plus, no one will be able to spell it. Cowan is ok. How about Cow"e"n instead?

no offense but Ulyssus Cowan is going to be a name picked on a lot. if you go for something less bold, it doesnt mean it wont be unique

Well, my grandmother's name was Jeannine and my boyfriend's grandmother's name was Grace, so we were thinking of Jacy or Jacie...it's original, and can be male or female. It's a mix between Jeannine and Gracie.
