I have to agree with Mrs. T Quebec City is one of my favourite places The Chemin St. Louis is alive, right next to le Vieux Quebec, start out with cocktails, un Pernod glacée at one end and end up with your Tarte au Sucre and coffee at the other, in between sampling the Jazz and sidewalk conversations, then bed down at the Chateau Frontenac. The Arts are alive there, each time of year is special, but I like when you can go for a short cruise and see the Beluga and Narwhales, natures art. I've lived in the US and Canada, and visited England and Belgium. I was born in Chicago, raised half there and half in Mt. Vernon, Illinois (my father's, and my hometown). Chicago's a good place to be from, far from. The last time I visited I had to pack 4 white shirts for each day, the collars turned all yellow and grimy just walking down the street. Although there were advantages to growing up there, they were not the happiest years of my life. We moved a lot, every different year in grade school a different school, sometimes two or three in the year. I lived on the North, South, and West Sides, apartments and tenements. attending both public and parochial schools (in one, a Black school they actually locked the new textbooks in a closet so they wouldn't get damaged while students shared outdated texts with torn pages full of graffiti, I don't know how many went on to high school from there much less college). That school was 1/2 year, the other 1/2 in parochial, the next year with grandparents down south (One room schoolhouse, Grandma's second cousin was principal a rigid disciplinarian fond of the razor strop, no family favourites as he liked to prove.) Next year I was in town with a great aunt, at a new school named after our cousin, both these were in houses. The next year was in Uptown Rogers Park tenement , then an apartment close to Old Town and a school overlooking Wrigley Field. High school was at Lane Tech, the premier Chicago High school. I dropped out before graduation my senior year when I was finally able to leave an abusive home, going back to my home down south where I lived with relatives until I rented my first house. Although I sat and aced all the senior exams, Lane wouldn't transfer credit so I did another senior year, first at Mt. Vernon, and then following a job offer the second half at Manteno, Ill. where I graduated with honours and a State Grant for college. I took my Associate's back in Mt. Vernon then my A.B. Phil. at MacMurray in Jacksonville, Ill. where I met and married my wife (another Mt. Vernon girl). I was not to see Mt. Vernon again, except taking my brother home to bury him among our folks who've been buried in the same cemetery since 1792. I still call Mt. Vernon home, but I was three years in Wisconsin for my M. Div. (actually four if you add the two post-grad stints), two years in Champaign, Ill., two years in Tonawanda, NY (outside Buffalo, another un-favourite place), six years in Ontario (loved it), four years on the Gaspé coast of Quebec (I'd go back in a heartbeat) and the last twenty years in and around Cooperstown, NY (the Catskills are nice, but there's too many Yankees). My next and final move is likely to be near my daughter on Michigan's UP. I do not like cities, although I enjoy Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City. I prefer the country, and of the two prefer Canada as more civil and civilised. I'm basically a Mid-Westerner, tending more southern. I like hills and orchards and people that say, "Hello, how are you?" and take the time to listen and care.

I was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. When I was 15, I started to ramble around the world and did so for a long time. I joined the military and went to many many places. My favourtie place I've been to would probably be Kenya. Amazing country. Something so beautiful about it despite the conditions the people are under. When I came home to Canada, I decided to settle down, get married and buy a house. That was a mistake. Almost immediately after I paid off our house, I lost my job, lost the house and a couple years later, lost my wife.

Now, I live alone, about ten minutes away from where I was born in an apartment. I'm thinking real hard about re-starting my rambler life style, if only for a few years.

I guess I have only really lived in 3 places - until I was 17, my family home was in a village 3 miles away from where I live now - and the only other place I have lived was during my first year at college - I lived on campus. I was born very near where I live now - in Cambridge, England....although the hospital where I was born no longer exists. I have always liked this area to a certain extent - it is a FAR better area than where I went to college - but after 30 years of living here, I would quite like to get away.

Interesting question!

Houses/apartments? I have lived in everything from a cottage with horse stable next door, to a tiny flat (apartment) and a much larger house - old and new, I have fond memories of them all.

Cities? I grew up in Maidstone, Kent, in England, and moved to London when I was 18. I moved around a lot in London, at least 9 times. Four years ago I moved to Arkansas and live in a small city which is quite different!

Countries? England and the United States

Which was your favorite? England ~ my home country, although I have a lot of affection for the US as well.

I've lived in conventional houses, apartments, mobile homes, RV's, Tents, an old rail road tunnel (three week horseback camping trip), and a sailboat.

Train tunnel on my extended camping trips, actually camped/lived there several times a month, for years, when-ever I got a free few days to go off with the horses.

My next favorite has yet to be built...that will be our straw bale house.

P.S. Next spring/summer, I hope to be living in a sheepherders camp trailer (think gypsy horsedrawn house) on rangeland, with my herd of goats, my Great Pyrenees dogs, and my horses. Life is short...make it an adventure!

I was born in Boston MA, lived in one city for 21 yrs...then moved to San Diego California for 2 yrs. Then returned to MA to live in a different city. So, I have lived in only 3 different cities in 2 different states.

I don't have a favorite. I loved living in Cali, but it was time for me to come home. If I had the chance, I would go back.

I'm going to put this in a bit different order so it makes sense.

I was born in Granite City, Illinois (silent s),
When I was 4 we moved to Ogden, Utah and then Roy, Utah for 3 years, then we moved to Glen Burnie, Maryland, after 2 years there, we moved to Benicia, California and then Vallejo, California (No my dad was not in the Military)

Then things get really exciting. I joined a Christian Drama Company and spent 8 1/2 years traveling. First was a training time in Los Angeles, CA then out on the road to Ohio, Maryland, Delaware, North Carolina, Alaska and the Yukon, Southern Ontario, Scotland, England, Norway, Nigeria, Southern Texas and Nebraska. Summer and January training times were in Los Angeles and Germany.

I've also been on 3 missions trips...Two to Guatemala and one to Northern Ireland.

I'm back in Northern California now.

As far as looks, Norway was one of the most beautiful as was Ireland and Scotland. As far as hospitality, I'd say Nigeria....Other places people let us stay in their guest rooms, in Nigeria, they gave up our beds so we'd have a place to sleep.

The reason for all the moves is because my family is Indian and moved to England before I was born, but then missed the country and came back. And I went to Chicago for college and then transferred to Baltimore (best decision I ever made) and accepted a job offer in Boston. I love big cities, and pretty much all of New England.

I spent 2 years in Germany, and found it to be a beautiful Country, especially when you get out of the city, and get to see the countryside.
I love the old world architecture, and am amazed by the work that went into the cobblestoned streets.
I found much the same, in rural upstate New York, and Pennsylvania.
I was born and raised in central California, but have traveled most of the United States.
I now live in SW Oregon. and love the cool weather. and alway prefer small towns, and living in the country.

but my favorite place to live, would be next door to my son and his family, where ever they choose to live.

I can't possibly count them all. I moved around a fair bit. My favorite city was Quebec City and my favorite place is my actual house. I've never lived in another country. I'd love to try though.
