He wants to divorce/annul his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. The Pope would not grant it. Thus, he made himself the supreme head of the Church of England together with the Archbishop of Canterbury. I think other reasons may have been consequential to this like control of all the wealth and assets of the Church of England. Power may be another I could think off.
