If a person can afford recreational drugs, doesn't that demonstrate that they don't need welfare? I've never been on drugs, but isn't it easier to quit drugs if you don't have any money?

That's a very good question. I don't know if a law like that would ever get passed (because of reactionary people), and true it is somewhat of an invasion of privacy, but you bring up a good point that a lot of working people have to do it, so why shouldn't they? However tobacco and alcohol are drugs, and most people don't seem to have a problem with those, so there might be a double standard at work if this law were to pass.

Certainly a good question without an easy answer.

Im against drug testing at the workplace. If you do your job improperly, you are fired. If you do your job good, then you are obviously not on drugs at the workplace.

However when the employer is the taxpayers, I think that the employee deserves more strict rules.

Not only should those on welfare be required to take drug tests, but also be put to work in the city when they are needed. This could negate costs slightly if they did common city cleanup. Cleanup after fairs, storms, clean parks, clean buildings, city re-beautification & so on.

I fully agree. I feel that drug testing should be mandatory in order to qualify for any government assistance (such as student loans). In addition, random drug testing should be mandatory for any person performing any function where other people's safety may depend on the quality of their work. (Do you want to fly on an airliner whose engines were repaired by a druggie?)

Agreed. Drugs have ruined our culture, our society, and our nation. We need to go cold turkey. The whole country.

I don't know anyone on welfare. I thought the rules were changed and no individual could receive welfare for more than 5 years during their lifetime? Do you know anyone on welfare? Is this a real problem?
